The Venezuelan national football team represents Venezuela in the international men's football association and is controlled by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), the umbrella organization for football in Venezuela. It is nicknamed Vino Tinto ("red wine") because of the traditional burgundy color of its shirts. In official home games, they usually switch between three stadiums: the Polideportivo Cachamay in Puerto Ordaz, the Estadio José Antonio Anzoátegui in Puerto La Cruz and the Estadio Pueblo Nuevo in San Cristóbal. In friendlies, they tend to move between the remaining stages of the country.

Unlike other South American countries and similar to some Caribbean countries, baseball is extremely popular in Venezuela. This distracts athletic talents from football, contributing to its historic defeat in CONMEBOL competitions. As of 2018, they are the only CONMEBOL team that has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. Often, Venezuela has gone through qualifying tournaments without a single victory, although this has changed in the last two qualifying rounds. By 2011, their best result in Copa América in 1967 was fifth at their first start. Recently, the popularity of the World Cup in countries where football was not the main sport (such as Japan, the United States, and Australia) has spread the national team's incentive to improve player development and supporter support. Since November 2018, Venezuela has held the highest position in the FIFA World Rankings of all teams that have not yet qualified for the World Cup, and is in 29th place.
