Slovakia Fortuna liga
The Slovak Super League is the highest football league in Slovakia, currently known as the Fortuna League due to a sponsorship arrangement. It was founded in 1993 after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The record for most titles is nine, held by Slovan Bratislava, who are defending champions.

Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia (1918-1993). The first Slovak championship Zvazové Majstrovstvá Slovenska was held between Slovak teams (1925-1933). Until 1935/36 no Slovakian team played in the Czechoslovak league. During the German occupation of Czechoslovakia Czech and Slovak clubs competed against each other in separate competitions. The only Slovak club in the league, ŠK Bratislava, was removed from the league and joined a new Slovak league, the Slovenská liga (1939-1945), in the newly independent Slovak Republic.
Based on an idea by Umberto Agnelli, the Golden Star award for excellence in sports was introduced to honor teams that have won several championships or other accolades.

Slovakia first entered the FIFA World Cup as a stand-alone nation after completing the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying round first - UEFA Group 3 ahead of Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Poland football. The result led Slovakia into the knockout round and eliminated Italy, who finished last in the group. The result of this game meant that for the first time in the history of the World Cup both finalists of the previous tournament were eliminated from the first round, champion Italy and runner-up Netherlands.
In the round of 16 Slovakia played in the round of 16 against the Netherlands football and fell with a gap of 2: 0 from.
