The Championnat National 2, commonly known as National 2 and formerly known as Championnat de France Amateur (CFA), is a football league competition. The league is the fourth tier of the French football league system behind Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and Championnat National. Championnat National 2, which is contested by 64 clubs, operates a promotion and relegation system with the Championnat National and the Championnat National 3, the fifth league of French football. The season runs from August to May, with teams in four groups playing 32 games, each with 1280 games in the season. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, some on weekday evenings. The game is regularly interrupted on the last weekend before Christmas for two weeks, before it resumes in the second week of January.

The Amateur Championnat de France was originally founded in 1927 by the French Football Federation and was composed of the regional amateur football champions. The league served until 1929 as the first league of French football, before the league in 1932 was converted into today's professional league. The current incarnation of the League is a simple renaming of the CFA, which was founded in 1993 as National 2 and lasted for five years, before it was converted in 1998 in the name CFA and 2017 in the name of National 2. Most clubs that are in the league are amateur clubs, hence the name of the league, but a small number of clubs are semi-professional. The league games attract an average of between 800 and 1,000 viewers per game. However, this average is diminished by the minutiae of the home-field games of professionals.

Each season, 64 clubs participate. The clubs are divided into four parallel groups of 16 people each, whereby the group membership depends only on the regional location. The league is open to the best reserve teams in France and amateur clubs in France, although only the amateur clubs are eligible for promotion to the Championnat National. During a season, usually from August to May, each club plays twice in each group, once in the home stadium and once in the opponent's stadium, a total of 30 games. The teams are scored according to the total score, goal difference and goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points, regardless of the group, is crowned Champion and promoted to Championnat National. If the points are equal, the results of the direct game, followed by the goal difference and the goals scored, determine the winner. If they are still the same, it is assumed that the teams occupy the same position. In a draw for the championship or relegation decides a playoff at a neutral place on the rank. The other three top-ranked amateur teams in the other groups will also be promoted as the 3 lowest teams in each group descend into the Championnat National 3, and the eight winners of the eight groups and the four best runner-ups from The Championnat National 3 will be promoted in their stead.
