The Bosnian-Herzegovinian national football team (Nogometna / Fudbalska reprezentacija Bosne i Hercegovine) and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Football Association Until 1992, Bosnian footballers played for Yugoslavia.

Bosnia and Herzegovina scored its best result when they reached the 2014 FIFA World Cup as winners of their qualifying group. After narrow losses in the group stage against Argentina and Nigeria and a victory against Iran they retired.

The national team have played in numerous other qualifying play-offs, including in the 2010 FIFA World Cup play-offs against Portugal, as well as in the qualifying play-offs for UEFA Euro 2012 and UEFA Euro 2016 against Portugal and the Republic of Ireland that the team will reach their first UEFA European Championship.

Their two home stages are Grbavica (Sarajevo) and Bilino Polje (Zenica). The team's highest FIFA World Ranking reached 13th place in August 2013.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, international football has grown steadily lately. Historically, Bosnia, a war-torn and divided nation, has played several playoffs and qualified for a FIFA World Cup. Mostly, the team delivers solid results in qualifying and challenging for a top spot.

From 1920 to 1992, the players lined up for Yugoslavia, but after the outbreak of the Bosnian War and the subsequent independence, a new nation emerged from the ashes.

In the beginning, Bosnia and Herzegovina had to wait until the FIFA World Cup qualifier in 1998 to secure a place in a major competition. In a group with Greece, Denmark, Croatia and Slovenia, Bosnia finished fourth. This was followed by another disappointment with lackluster campaigns in the UEFA Euro 2000 qualifiers and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

This early phase saw Bosnia on the verge of qualifying for the first major competition, the UEFA Euro 2004, with just one goal against Denmark narrowly missed.

Bosnia failed to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, despite being unbeaten at home, and qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2008, when the poor form of the home team cost them. Bosnia and Herzegovina suffered a double heartbreak and lost twice in the play-offs against Portugal, first 2-0 in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final and then 6-2 in the UEFA Euro 2012 standings.

Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which hosted Brazil in October 2013, defeating Lithuania, breaking its curse and participating in a major tournament.

They finished third in a group that included Argentina and celebrated their first victory thanks to a 3-1 win over Iran. Nigeria took second place to Bosnia in a 1-0 win controversial after a goal scored by Edin Džeko in the first half.

The Bosnian national team has recently begun using the Grbavica stadium in Sarajevo after a renovation in 2018 for their home games. The second of the two main stages of the national football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Bilino Polje in the city of Zenica. The stadium was built and opened in 1972 and serves as a venue for games with a more intimate atmosphere.

Bilino Polje Stadium

On 10 August 2012, the Bosnian Federation and the local government of the city of Zenica financed the replacement of the old lawn at Bilino Polje Stadium.

Another stadium that has used Bosnia for some of its games is the City Stadium Koševo, also known as the Olympic Stadium Koševo.

The National Games training ground is the N / FSBIH training center in Zenica, which opened in 2013 in collaboration with UEFA.
